Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Holdings to 2,391 BTC with $13.4 Million Acquisition

Metaplanet

Metaplanet, a Japanese investment firm, has added 156 bitcoin (BTC) to its holdings, spending approximately $13.4 million at an average price of $85,890 per BTC. The announcement was made on March 3, 2025, by CEO Simon Gerovich via X.

Metaplanet has acquired 156 BTC for ~$13.4 million at ~$85,890 per bitcoin and has achieved BTC Yield of 31.8% YTD 2025. As of 3/3/2025, we hold 2,391 BTC acquired for ~$196.3 million at ~82,100 per bitcoin,” Gerovich stated.

Increasing Bitcoin Holdings Amid Market Fluctuations

The latest purchase brings Metaplanet’s total bitcoin holdings to 2,391 BTC, valued at approximately $196.3 million.

Notably, the firm has been steadily increasing its bitcoin reserves, having purchased 135 BTC just days earlier for roughly $13 million at an average cost of $96,185 per token. The lower acquisition cost in the latest purchase suggests the firm capitalized on a market dip to strengthen its position.

Aligning with Industry Leaders

Metaplanet’s aggressive Bitcoin strategy aligns with the playbook of Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), the largest corporate bitcoin holder.

Since entering the market in April 2024, Metaplanet has consistently expanded its holdings, mirroring Strategy’s accumulation strategy. Strategy currently holds 499,096 BTC, valued at $33.1 billion, with an average purchase price of $66,357 per BTC.

Gerovich has previously indicated Metaplanet’s ambitious target of reaching 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025.
