NiceHash Unveils First-Ever Mainstream Firmware for Scrypt Mining

NiceHash has announced the release of the first dedicated firmware designed specifically for Scrypt mining machines. The firmware targets improved efficiency and profitability for miners of coins such as Litecoin, Dogecoin, and Bellscoin. The new firmware, developed in collaboration with MARA, represents a major advance in cryptocurrency mining by offering optimized support for one of the industry’s earliest and still widely used hashing algorithms.

NiceHash built the newly launched Scrypt Firmware to enhance mining performance for Scrypt-based Proof-of-Work networks. According to NiceHash, this solution allows professional and solo miners to achieve better returns by optimizing their existing hardware rather than upgrading to new machines.

Scrypt, originally based on SHA-256, is a major component of networks like Litecoin and Dogecoin. Experts recognize it as faster and more energy-efficient than Bitcoin’s SHA-256 algorithm. The firmware enables users to continue mining these assets while benefiting from greater efficiency and reduced operational overhead.

One of the firmware’s standout features is its low fee rate of 1.4%, which could appeal to miners looking to manage costs more effectively amid increasing operational pressures. In addition, the firmware is designed to support Bitcoin payouts, which can simplify earnings consolidation for miners working across different chains.

Built in Partnership with MARA

NiceHash’s Scrypt firmware was built with support from MARA, a firm recognized for its mining technology and infrastructure solutions. MARA’s contributions included integrating advanced cooling systems and proprietary firmware architecture designed to maintain machine performance in demanding conditions.

The firmware follows a similar release for Kaspa miners, reportedly delivering performance increases of up to 20%. This sequence of product launches reflects NiceHash’s ongoing efforts to provide dedicated firmware solutions tailored to specific mining algorithms.

To facilitate adoption, NiceHash has published a detailed installation and setup guide for miners interested in deploying the new firmware. The guide is intended to walk users through the process of integrating the software with their mining equipment, allowing them to continue mining on the Scrypt algorithm while gaining the benefits of the enhanced firmware.
