Authorities Highlight Positive Impact of Mining Ban
According to Russian state news agency TASS, the Ministry of Energy emphasized the benefits of the restrictions, stating:

Siberia, one of Russia’s poorest areas, faced an energy crisis warning last year. Governor Igor Kobzev issued a decree to prepare emergency teams for possible blackouts. The recent mining restrictions have alleviated some of these concerns by preserving electricity for essential services.
The mining ban, implemented in 13 regions, affects areas such as Dagestan, Chechnya, and North Ossetia, with restrictions in place from January 1 to March 15, 2025. In contrast, regions like Irkutsk, Buryatia, and Zabaykalye, where energy demand spikes in winter, face limited restrictions from November 15 to March 15 each year.
Government Prioritizes Social and Industrial Needs
Despite recognizing cryptocurrency mining as an economic activity, Russian officials stress that energy allocation must prioritize social and industrial needs. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak reiterated:
