Jane Street’s Crypto Investments Revealed in SEC Filings

According to a Schedule 13G filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Jane Street, which manages over $450 billion in assets, has significantly expanded its exposure to the cryptocurrency industry. The filing, submitted on February 14, 2025, confirms Jane Street’s holdings surpass the 5% threshold, requiring public disclosure.

The most notable acquisition is a 6% stake in Iris Energy, a publicly traded Bitcoin mining company. As of December 31, 2024, Jane Street owned 11,797,987 shares in Iris Energy. The firm also made sizable investments in Coinbase, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, and MicroStrategy, which is well known for its extensive Bitcoin treasury holdings.

Institutional Interest in Crypto Continues to Rise

Jane Street’s crypto investments align with growing institutional participation in the sector. BlackRock and Vanguard have also increased their exposure to crypto-linked companies and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The firm’s latest acquisitions suggest institutional players are solidifying their position in the evolving digital asset market.

Iris Energy, which Jane Street now holds a significant share in, mined 521 BTC in January 2025, with an operational hash rate of 28.93 EH/s, representing 3.71% of the global Bitcoin mining market share.

What This Means for the Crypto Market

The entry of Wall Street heavyweights like Jane Street into the crypto ecosystem underscores the increasing legitimization of digital assets. The firm’s strategic move reflects a long-term bet on the future of blockchain technology and Bitcoin adoption.

As more institutional investors accumulate crypto-related stocks, the market could see increased liquidity and stability. Jane Street’s latest disclosures add further credibility to the mainstream integration of cryptocurrencies into traditional finance.

Stay Ahead of Institutional Crypto Moves

Jane Street’s growing interest in crypto-related companies highlights a shift in institutional investment strategies. As Wall Street firms deepen their crypto exposure, investors should monitor further developments in institutional crypto adoption and regulatory trends shaping the industry.
